(Not much linguistics here.)
In the middle of the night on Saturdays here the TNT network shows re-runs of the current Hawaii Five-0 tv series, so I’m kept alert by acrobatic fistfights, exchanges of gunfire, and car chases all over scenic Hawaii. And the banter between the two principal characters — it’s a buddy drama, a bro show — with significant interludes of muscular shirtlessness.
On the show, from Wikipedia:
Hawaii Five-0 [2010- ] is an American police procedural drama television series and a remake of the original 1968–80 television series.
… The series covers the actions of a small special state task force [essentially an ad hoc state police] created by the Governor of Hawaii … The team is headed by Lt. Commander Steve McGarrett, USNR [Alex O’Loughlin] as it investigates crimes ranging from terrorism to kidnapping. McGarrett chooses as his partner Honolulu P.D. Detective Danny “Danno” Williams [Scott Caan].
Steve is the more cautious of the pair, Danno the headstrong and impulsive one. They quarrel like brothers, but stand together when they need to. They are also both hunks, deeply into physical fitness and sports, and rarely in repose.
O’Loughlin on Wikipedia:
Alex O’Loughlin is an Australian actor, currently playing Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett on CBS’ remade TV series of Hawaii Five-0.
And Caan on Wikipedia:
