In a discussion of The Gospel Four (I Won’t Walk Without Jesus) on Facebook, things veered — don’t ask — onto the tv show Mama’s Family, which brought us to Allan Kayser from the show and led me to some excellent shirtlessness.

Mama’s Family is an American television sitcom starring Vicki Lawrence as Thelma Harper (Mama). The series is a spin-off of a recurring series of comedy sketches (1974–77) on The Carol Burnett Show and (1979) Carol Burnett & Company called The Family.
The show is a “class comedy”, affectionately playing on lower-class values and behaviors, while coming very close — uncomfortably close, to my mind — to mocking them.

Allan J. Kayser II (born December 18, 1963) is an American film and TV actor.
Kayser was born and raised in Littleton, Colorado, and attended Columbine High School from 1978-1982. Shortly after graduating, Kayser moved to Los Angeles, California and began his acting career. He was a part of several motion pictures in the 1980s, including Hot Chili and Night of the Creeps. However, Kayser is perhaps best known for starring in 95 episodes of the American television sitcom Mama’s Family from 1986–1990, making him a teen idol in the 1980s.
